Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to peace during a phone call with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, as tensions in the Middle East continue to disrupt the global economy.
According to the Foreign Office of Pakistan, the two leaders discussed the evolving regional situation and Islamabad’s ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability. The conversation comes at a time when conflict involving Iran, United States, and Israel has significantly impacted global trade and energy supplies.
A key issue in the discussions was the continued disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has imposed a blockade following recent military actions. The move has restricted the flow of oil, gas, and fertiliser shipments, contributing to instability in global markets. In response, the United States has enforced a counter-blockade on Iranian ports.
During the call, Araghchi acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role and its efforts to mediate between the conflicting sides. Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating dialogue and encouraging peaceful engagement to resolve the crisis.
Diplomatic efforts appear to be ongoing despite stalled negotiations since a ceasefire came into effect on April 8. Iran has reportedly presented a 14-point proposal aimed at ending the conflict, which has been communicated to Washington through Pakistani mediators. The United States has responded, and Tehran is currently reviewing the message.
Pakistan has increasingly positioned itself as a key intermediary in the crisis, hosting high-level talks between US and Iranian officials last month. However, a second round of negotiations has yet to take place as both sides remain at an impasse.
Officials in Islamabad continue to emphasise that sustained diplomatic engagement is essential to prevent further escalation and to restore stability in the region. The outcome of these mediation efforts could play a crucial role in easing tensions and stabilising global economic conditions.
