Karachi Sizzles Under Intense Heatwave Conditions

Residents of Karachi continue to endure an intense spell of hot and dry weather, with soaring temperatures and extremely low humidity creating challenging conditions across the city.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, temperatures reached 41°C on Monday, with humidity dropping to as low as 8%. Weather experts have warned that the mercury could climb further to 42°C during the day, while hot north-westerly winds continue to blow across the شہر.

Medical professionals have raised concerns over the impact of the harsh weather on public health. Experts say that extreme heat combined with dry conditions can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and other serious complications if preventive measures are not followed.

Renowned pulmonary specialist Dr Javed Khan reported a noticeable surge in respiratory illnesses, with hospitals seeing around a 20% increase in such cases. He explained that in hot conditions, the effective oxygen levels in the air feel reduced, leading to breathing difficulties, particularly for asthma patients. The risk of pneumonia has also increased during this period.
