A government girls’ primary school was destroyed in an explosion after unidentified miscreants allegedly planted explosive material at the building in the Sara Ghowara area of Birmal Tehsil, Lower South Waziristan, late Tuesday night, police officials said.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Tahir Shah, the powerful blast completely destroyed the school building. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as the attack occurred during the night when the school was empty.
Investigation Underway
The DPO said police have registered the incident in the daily diary and launched an investigation to identify those responsible.
So far, no individual or militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Growing Concern Over Attacks on Schools
The latest incident comes amid a rise in attacks targeting educational institutions in Lower South Waziristan.
According to local police and residents:
- Two schools in Birmal Tehsil were also attacked in February and March this year.
- Similar incidents have raised concerns about the safety of schools and the future of education in the region.
Community leaders and residents strongly condemned the attack, saying such incidents not only damage public infrastructure but also threaten the education of children—especially girls, who already face significant challenges in accessing education in remote tribal districts.
Similar Incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The attack is part of a broader pattern of assaults on educational institutions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
- In December 2025, a government girls’ school in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, was destroyed in a blast.
- In October 2025, another government girls’ primary school in Wanda Zahidgul, Lakki Marwat, was blown up using explosives.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to investigating such attacks and bringing those responsible to justice.
