ISLAMABAD: A prominent businessman was killed after sustaining gunshot injuries during an armed robbery at his farmhouse in Islamabad’s Orchard Scheme in the early hours of Monday, police said.
The victim, identified as Amir Awan, owned a car showroom in the Aabpara area and was considered a well-known figure in business circles.
Armed Intrusion and Shooting
According to police officials, a group of five armed assailants entered the farmhouse, reportedly carrying submachine guns and wearing bulletproof jackets. CCTV footage reviewed by investigators confirmed the presence of multiple suspects inside the premises.
Initial findings suggest that the victim attempted to resist the attackers, leading to a violent confrontation.
Sequence of Events
A first information report (FIR) was registered at Shahzad Town police station under relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s wife, Aisha Awan.
According to her statement, she awoke around 2:45am after hearing noise and found her husband engaged in a struggle with armed intruders inside their bedroom, while additional suspects were positioned outside.
She said the attackers opened fire when she raised an alarm, resulting in her husband being shot in the abdomen. He later collapsed due to his injuries.
Aftermath and Escape of Suspects
Following the gunfire and commotion, the couple’s sons entered the room, prompting the attackers to flee through a window.
Security personnel deployed at the residence reported that the assailants had also looted cash and mobile phones, while one guard was confined to a room during the incident.
Medical Treatment and Death
The injured businessman was initially taken to a government hospital before being shifted to a private medical facility. He later succumbed to his injuries during surgery, officials confirmed.
Investigation Underway
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, collecting forensic evidence and reviewing CCTV footage to identify and apprehend the suspects.
The case has been registered under Section 397, which pertains to robbery or dacoity involving attempts to cause death or grievous harm.
Security Concerns
The incident has raised fresh concerns about security in high-end residential areas of the capital, particularly as the neighbourhood is known to house influential figures, including senior officials and political personalities.
