Relatives of a Pakistan-origin man living in Kuwait have appealed to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help confirm the fate of their family members, who are believed to be missing following reports of a possible missile debris incident during heightened regional tensions.
According to a letter submitted by family members in Toba Tek Singh, Muhammad Saleem, the brother-in-law of Waqas Ahmed, sought urgent assistance from authorities to verify unconfirmed reports suggesting that the family may have been killed in a highway incident involving missile interception debris.
The letter states that Waqas Ahmed, who was working in Kuwait along with his family, was last believed to be traveling by road toward Saudi Arabia amid deteriorating security conditions in the region. The family reportedly consisted of five members, including his wife and three children.
A message allegedly received by relatives suggested that debris from an intercepted missile struck an oil tanker on a highway, triggering a large explosion involving multiple vehicles. The message further claimed that Waqas Ahmed, his wife, and their eldest daughter died at the scene, while two younger children later succumbed to injuries in hospital. However, the family says these claims remain unverified.
Relatives said that after the initial communication, the source of the information became unreachable, raising further uncertainty and distress. They added that no official confirmation has been received from Kuwaiti authorities, hospitals, or the Pakistani embassy.
The family has urged the Foreign Office to verify hospital records, contact local authorities in Kuwait, and provide clarity on the situation.
Separately, the victim’s brother stated that Waqas Ahmed, an electrical engineer working for an Australian company, had been stationed in Kuwait for a project and was last in contact with family on March 27.
He said the family had been attempting to avoid potential missile-related risks during regional instability linked to the broader US-Israel-Iran conflict, which had impacted several Gulf states.
Reports of missile debris causing civilian casualties have previously emerged in the region during periods of heightened military tension, although official confirmation in this case remains pending.
Authorities in Pakistan have not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
