The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday restrained authorities from deporting a man named Quaid-i-Azam after his Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) was blocked by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).
A two-member bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmed and Justice Inamullah Khan heard a petition challenging the suspension of the petitioner’s national identity card.
Petitioner Challenges CNIC Block
Representing the petitioner, Advocate Saifullah Mohib Kakakhel argued that his client is a Pakistani citizen who conducts business in both Pakistan and Dubai.
He told the court that the blocking of the CNIC had caused significant hardship, affecting the petitioner’s business activities despite being a taxpayer.
The lawyer further informed the bench that Nadra had asked the petitioner to produce his uncle before the verification process could proceed, adding that other members of his family also possess valid Pakistani identity cards.
Nadra Defends Action
Appearing on behalf of Nadra, Assistant Director Legal Shahid Imran Gigiyani submitted the authority’s response to the court.
He stated that the petitioner’s identity record had been classified as suspicious, leading to the blocking of his national identity card pending verification.
PHC Issues Interim Relief
After hearing arguments from both parties, the Peshawar High Court directed the petitioner to appear before Nadra’s Verification Board to establish his identity.
The court also ordered that no deportation action be taken against the petitioner until the verification process is completed and the matter is decided.
