Thousands of US Paratroopers Arrive in Middle East Amid Iran Tensions

MIDDLE EAST: Thousands of soldiers from the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division have begun arriving in the Middle East, two U.S. officials told Reuters on Monday, amid rising tensions with Iran.

The paratroopers are based out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and are part of a broader U.S. military buildup in the region. Over the weekend, about 2,500 Marines also arrived to reinforce existing forces. Additional personnel include sailors and Special Operations troops.

Officials said the Army deployment includes elements of the 82nd Airborne Division headquarters, logistics units, and one brigade combat team. The troops will strengthen U.S. capacity in the region, preparing for potential future operations.

No decision has been made to send troops into Iranian territory. The deployment is intended to expand options for the U.S. administration as President Donald Trump weighs his next steps in the conflict with Iran.

The movement of troops follows earlier reports that the U.S. was considering a major troop buildup to respond to escalating regional tensions.
