Five Policemen Injured in IED Attack Targeting Patrol in Lakki Marwat
At least five policemen were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack targeting a police patrol in Lakki Marwat, officials confirmed on Monday.
According to a district police spokesperson, the attack occurred along the Bannu-Dera Ismail Khan section of the Indus Highway, where militants had planted an explosive device on a motorcycle parked by the roadside.
The device detonated as a police patrol from Shahbazkhel police station passed through the area, resulting in injuries to one assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and four constables. The police vehicle was also damaged in the blast.
Authorities attributed the attack to militants associated with Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), commonly referred to by the state as Fitna-al-Khawarij.
The injured personnel were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment.
Following the explosion, a heavy police contingent cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation to locate those responsible.
Nazir Khan, District Police Officer of Lakki Marwat, visited the site along with teams from the Counter-Terrorism Department and the Bomb Disposal Squad. He directed officials to enhance security measures and expedite efforts to apprehend the attackers.

The incident comes amid a surge in militant attacks across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly targeting law enforcement agencies. Districts such as Bannu, Peshawar, Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Bajaur have witnessed increased violence in recent months.
According to the Annual Security Report 2025 by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, fatalities in the province rose significantly, highlighting a deteriorating security situation.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident as efforts intensify to counter militancy in the region.
