Islamabad has been placed on high alert with extensive security arrangements ahead of key peace talks between the United States and Iran.
Authorities have deployed more than 10,000 security personnel across the federal capital to ensure the safety of visiting delegations. The multi-layered security plan is being supervised by the Pakistan Army, with support from Rangers, Islamabad Police, Punjab Police, and paramilitary forces.
According to officials, around 6,000 Islamabad Police personnel, 900 Frontier Constabulary, and 3,000 Punjab Constabulary officers have been deployed, alongside additional forces including the Rangers and army units. Traffic management is being handled by both Islamabad Traffic Police and the National Highways and Motorway Police.
Red Zone Sealed, Movement Restricted
Security has been significantly tightened in the Red Zone, where key government buildings and diplomatic venues are located. Entry points have been sealed, with only Margalla Road remaining open for authorized individuals.
Special routes have been designated for the movement of foreign delegations, with strict “blue book” security protocols in place. Authorities have also imposed restrictions on carrying electronic devices, including mobile phones, for close protection teams accompanying VIPs.
Citywide Traffic Disruptions
Major routes including Faisal Avenue, Zero Point, and the Expressway up to Koral Chowk have been closed or partially restricted. Traffic has been diverted to alternative routes such as 9th Avenue, while commuters from areas like Bhara Kahu and I.J.P Road have been redirected through designated corridors.
Security and Emergency Preparedness
Quick Response Force units have been stationed at key locations, while additional troops have been deployed in the Margalla Hills. The capital administration has ensured readiness of emergency services, including ambulances, fire brigades, and infrastructure support.
The heightened security reflects the global importance of the upcoming talks, as Islamabad prepares to host one of the most critical diplomatic engagements in recent years.
