Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei Says ‘We Do Not Want War’ but Warns Aggressors Will Face Consequences

Mojtaba Khamenei has stated that Iran does not seek war with the United States or Israel, but warned that any aggression against the country will not go unanswered.

In a message broadcast on state television, Khamenei emphasized that Iran remains committed to defending its sovereignty and rights. “We did not seek war and we do not want it,” he said, while adding that “criminal aggressors” would face consequences.

Post-Conflict Leadership and Regional Signals

Khamenei’s remarks come weeks after the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, marking a sensitive transition in Iran’s leadership during an ongoing regional conflict.

He also referenced the broader “resistance front,” an apparent nod to allies such as Hezbollah, signaling continued regional alignment amid tensions.

Ceasefire and Diplomatic Uncertainty

The statement follows Iran’s agreement to a fragile two-week ceasefire with the United States, raising cautious hopes for potential negotiations. However, the situation remains volatile, with both sides maintaining strong rhetoric.

Khamenei also indicated that Iran is entering a new phase in managing the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy chokepoint, highlighting its strategic importance in the conflict.

Call for Public Support

In a notable appeal, the supreme leader urged Iranian citizens to remain active and engaged, stressing that public demonstrations could influence the outcome of negotiations.

Uncertainty Surrounding Leader’s Condition

Khamenei has not appeared publicly since assuming leadership, reportedly due to injuries sustained during earlier strikes. While speculation about his condition continues, Iranian state media maintains that he is recovering.

A Fragile Path Ahead

As diplomatic efforts continue, Khamenei’s message reflects a dual approach—signaling openness to peace while reinforcing readiness for retaliation—underscoring the delicate balance shaping the region’s future.
