Pakistan is preparing to host peace talks between the United States and Iran after playing a role in helping secure a two-week ceasefire between the two sides.
The talks are expected to begin in Islamabad, although officials have not yet confirmed whether they will go ahead as planned. A two-day public holiday has been declared in the capital ahead of the expected negotiations, while security has been significantly tightened across the city.
Around 10,000 police and security personnel have been deployed in Islamabad as preparations continue. Streets in several areas have become noticeably quieter due to heightened security arrangements.
The ceasefire and upcoming talks come at a time of rising global concern over tensions between the US and Iran. One of the key international concerns is the safety of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route through which nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply previously passed.

For Pakistan, the situation carries major regional and strategic risks. Analysts warn that if the peace process fails, Pakistan could face increased pressure due to its geographic location and existing regional tensions.
Experts have also pointed out that Pakistan has security concerns along multiple borders, including ongoing tensions with Afghanistan and India, as well as internal insurgencies in certain regions. A further escalation in regional conflict could create serious challenges for the country.
Despite the risks, Pakistan’s role in facilitating the ceasefire has been widely discussed on social media, where many users have praised the country’s diplomatic efforts.
According to analysts, Pakistan’s involvement reflects its unique position as a country maintaining communication channels with both Western and Middle Eastern powers, allowing it to act as a mediator in sensitive negotiations.
The development comes at a time when Pakistan is seeking to strengthen its international diplomatic standing while also managing internal political and economic challenges.
Officials say the outcome of the talks will be closely watched by global powers, as any breakdown in negotiations could further escalate tensions in the region.
