Government cuts petrol price by Rs12 and diesel by Rs135 per litre

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a significant reduction in fuel prices, lowering the price of petrol by Rs12 per litre and diesel by Rs135 per litre.

The announcement was made during a televised address to the nation on Friday, which he described as being delivered on a “historic occasion” amid emerging signs of peace in the Gulf region.

The prime minister said that countries previously engaged in conflict were now moving towards dialogue and diplomatic solutions. He credited recent international efforts for helping secure a two-week ceasefire and expressed hope for further progress toward lasting peace.

He also thanked the leadership of Iran and the United States for agreeing to engage in negotiations and for accepting Pakistan’s role in hosting talks aimed at restoring regional stability.

According to the prime minister, Pakistan’s involvement in facilitating peace discussions is a matter of pride not only for the country but for the wider Muslim world.

The latest fuel price reduction follows a previous adjustment announced a week earlier, when the government reduced the petroleum levy by Rs80 per litre, leading to a decrease in petrol prices to Rs378 per litre.

Authorities say the new price cuts are part of ongoing adjustments linked to global oil market movements and evolving geopolitical conditions in the Gulf region.
