More than six years after an Indiana firefighter was shot and killed, his stepson has spoken publicly about the case that led to his own mother being convicted of the crime.
Nathaniel Guthrie, the son of Becky Fox-Doerr, shared his experience in a recent interview, describing the traumatic moment he arrived at the crime scene in Evansville and saw police surrounding the home.
His stepfather, Robbie Doerr, a 51-year-old firefighter with nearly three decades of service, was shot multiple times in his driveway in February 2019 after returning home from work.

Authorities said Becky Fox-Doerr called emergency services after hearing gunshots, but investigators later uncovered evidence that raised suspicion. Records showed she had communicated with Larry Richmond Sr. shortly before the shooting and deleted the call from her phone.
Initially denying the contact, she later admitted to the call but said she regularly deleted records to free up space on her device.

Investigators also examined the relationship between Fox-Doerr and Richmond Sr., who had a prior conviction for a 1996 killing and had served more than 20 years in prison. Authorities alleged that the two were romantically involved, though both denied the claim.
Prosecutors argued that the pair conspired to kill Doerr, potentially motivated by financial gain, including access to his pension and life insurance benefits. However, it was later revealed that Doerr’s daughter was the sole beneficiary.

Fox-Doerr and Richmond Sr. were both charged with murder and conspiracy in 2022. After trial, they were found guilty on both counts. Fox-Doerr was sentenced to 90 years in prison, while Richmond Sr. received a life sentence.
The case deeply affected the family, with Guthrie describing the emotional conflict of losing his stepfather while also confronting his mother’s role in the crime.

Fox-Doerr later attempted to appeal her conviction in 2025, but the appeal was denied.
The case continues to draw attention as it highlights the lasting emotional impact of violent crime on families and the complex relationships involved.
