Iran FM Araghchi discusses US talks conditions with Pakistan during regional tour

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said he discussed the “path and conditions” for continuing dialogue with the United States during recent meetings with officials in Pakistan, as Tehran intensifies regional diplomacy amid stalled negotiations.

In a statement shared on his Telegram channel, Araghchi said his visit to Islamabad focused on consultations with what he described as “friends in Pakistan,” noting that the country has recently played a mediating role between Iran and the United States.

According to Araghchi, the talks examined recent developments in negotiations and Iran’s concerns about what he called “wrong approaches and excessive demands” from Washington, which he said had prevented progress in earlier rounds of talks.

He added that the discussions in Pakistan were “successful” and helped review “the path and conditions under which negotiations can continue.”

The Iranian foreign minister has recently undertaken a regional diplomatic tour, visiting Pakistan twice within two days, as well as Oman and Russia, as part of efforts to coordinate positions with regional partners.

Araghchi said his visit to Oman focused on broader regional cooperation and coordination over strategic issues, including maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz. He described Oman as a “friendly and close country” that has played a constructive role during recent regional tensions.

He also highlighted the importance of ensuring “safe passage” through the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a shared interest for Iran and neighboring countries, particularly Oman.

On Pakistan, Araghchi emphasized that consultations included reviewing recent diplomatic developments involving US talks, with Islamabad acting as an intermediary in some communication channels. He said Iran and Pakistan agreed to continue discussions at the expert level.

The Iranian minister also noted ongoing coordination with Russia, describing it as part of broader regional consultations on the evolving geopolitical situation.

His comments come as diplomatic efforts continue to keep Iran–US dialogue alive following stalled negotiations and shifting proposals. Earlier reports suggested that Tehran had sent messages via mediators outlining conditions related to nuclear issues and maritime security.

Meanwhile, tensions in the region remain high, with energy markets reacting strongly to uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route for oil and gas exports.

Despite setbacks in formal negotiations, Araghchi indicated that diplomatic engagement is ongoing through multiple regional partners, including Pakistan, Oman, and Russia, as Iran seeks to define acceptable terms for future talks with Washington.
