Parachinar Airport in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram District has been made operational again after remaining inactive for a long period, following rehabilitation and upgrade work carried out by relevant authorities.
According to officials, the airport has been restored through joint efforts of the Frontier Works Organisation and the Pakistan Airports Authority, aimed at improving infrastructure and resuming air connectivity in the region.
As part of the final assessment process, Pakistan Army Aviation conducted six successful landing and takeoff trials at the airport on April 26. These trials were carried out to evaluate runway strength, construction quality, and overall operational safety under different conditions.
Officials confirmed that after these test operations, the runway and airport facilities were declared compliant with professional aviation standards and safety requirements.
The restoration of Parachinar Airport is expected to improve regional air connectivity, support emergency services, and help boost economic activity in Kurram District and surrounding areas.
Previously, officials from the Pakistan Airports Authority and Pakistan International Airlines had visited the site to assess its readiness for both commercial and humanitarian flight operations. An eight-member committee was also formed to inspect the airport’s infrastructure, including the terminal building, runway, fire safety systems, accommodation facilities, and power backup systems.
With operations now resumed, authorities say further improvements are expected to strengthen the airport’s capacity, making it a more reliable transport hub for the region.
