Kuwait Assures Fuel Supply to Pakistan Amid Strait of Hormuz Disruptions

ISLAMABAD: Kuwait has assured Pakistan of continued facilitation in the supply of diesel and jet fuel, offering relief amid disruptions caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz during the ongoing U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.

The assurance comes as Pakistan faces increased pressure on its energy supply chain, with alternative shipping routes leading to higher transportation costs and logistical challenges.

Fuel Supply Secured Amid Disruptions

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar recently announced that Tehran had allowed multiple Pakistani-flagged oil cargoes to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, easing immediate concerns over supply bottlenecks.

Pakistan imports more than 60 percent of its diesel requirements from Kuwait under a long-standing agreement between Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and Pakistan State Oil.

High-Level Talks on Energy Cooperation

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met Kuwait’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Almutairi on Monday to discuss bilateral ties, energy cooperation, and the evolving regional situation.

During the meeting, Malik expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s continued support, particularly its commitment to facilitating fuel shipments despite ongoing geopolitical challenges.

Decades-Long Energy Partnership

Officials highlighted the longstanding energy partnership between the two countries, noting that Pakistan has relied on Kuwaiti petroleum products for over five decades.

The relationship, described as both historic and strategic, remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s energy security, especially during periods of global uncertainty.

Regional Context and Strategic Coordination

The discussions also touched on broader regional developments, with Pakistan emphasizing its commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and ensuring the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities across the region.

Mutual Support and Future Cooperation

The Kuwaiti envoy praised Pakistan’s role in promoting peaceful solutions and reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to supporting Islamabad during challenging times.

Both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation, particularly in the energy sector, and to remain closely engaged in addressing shared challenges.

Outlook

As geopolitical tensions continue to disrupt global energy routes, Pakistan’s ability to secure stable fuel supplies remains critical to its economic stability.

Kuwait’s assurance provides a degree of confidence, but ongoing developments in the region will continue to shape the outlook for energy security in the months ahead.
