FLORIDA: Golf legend Tiger Woods was found with two hydrocodone pills in his pocket after a car crash last week, according to a police report.
Officers at the scene said Woods appeared “lethargic and slow,” was sweating heavily, and had extremely dilated pupils. He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence after his car clipped a truck and rolled over. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, Woods passed a breathalyser test but refused to take a urinalysis test for other substances. During questioning, Woods admitted he had taken some prescription medication earlier that morning.
Police later discovered two white pills in his possession, which were identified as hydrocodone, a strong painkiller used to treat severe pain.
Woods told officers he was distracted by his phone while changing radio stations and did not notice the vehicle in front slowing down before the crash. He reportedly had to crawl out of the passenger side of the car after the accident.
The report also noted that Woods was limping and stumbling. He told officers he has undergone multiple surgeries in recent years, including seven back surgeries and more than 20 operations on his leg. He had also suffered serious injuries in a 2021 car crash.
Despite appearing impaired, one officer said Woods was also “extremely alert and talkative” during parts of the investigation. However, after conducting field sobriety tests, a deputy concluded that Woods was not in a condition to safely operate a vehicle.
Woods was held in custody for eight hours — the minimum required under state law — before being released on bail. He now faces additional charges including property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
Neither Woods nor the PGA Tour has issued a public statement on the matter so far.
The 15-time major champion has recently been recovering from injuries, including an Achilles tendon rupture in March 2025 and back surgery later that year. He had just returned to competitive golf and was expected to potentially play in upcoming tournaments.
