CM Maryam announces first-ever Punjab Film City in Lahore

The Punjab government has announced the establishment of its first-ever Punjab Film City in Lahore, a large-scale project aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s film and creative industry.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz shared on X that the project will span 50 acres and has been designed after consultations with filmmakers, producers, and actors. The goal is to create a complete production ecosystem within Pakistan for film, television, and digital content creation.

According to the announcement, the Film City will include modern film studios, sound stages, advanced visual effects (VFX) and post-production facilities, and specially designed outdoor shooting areas. A central lake and themed backlots will also be part of the complex to support diverse filming requirements.

The project will further include a purpose-built convention hall for international award ceremonies, media trade hubs, and a dedicated film and music school to train future professionals in the entertainment industry.

Safety infrastructure and emergency response systems will also be part of the development, along with an entertainment district designed to support industry activity and tourism.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the initiative is aimed at empowering local artists, creating thousands of job opportunities, and presenting Pakistan as a global hub for creative industries. She described the Film City as a space where young talent can develop and showcase their creativity on an international level.

She added that the broader vision of her government is to transform Punjab into a center for technology, innovation, culture, and heritage, with the Film City serving as a key step in that direction.
