Ex-Australia Cricketer David Warner Charged with Drink-Driving in Sydney

Sydney: Former Australia cricketer David Warner, 39, has been charged with drink-driving in Sydney, New South Wales Police confirmed on Sunday.

Warner was arrested after a random breath test in Maroubra, eastern Sydney, returned a positive result. A subsequent test at Maroubra Police Station reportedly showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.104, more than twice the legal limit in New South Wales.

Police stated that a van, allegedly stopping short of the testing site, drew attention from Traffic and Highway Patrol officers. The driver was then subjected to roadside testing and later arrested. Warner has been charged with a mid-range prescribed concentration of alcohol, which applies to drivers with blood alcohol levels between 0.08 and 0.149.

Warner, who retired from international cricket in 2024, currently captains Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The team is scheduled to face Peshawar Zalmi on April 9. Warner is set to appear in court on May 7 regarding the charges.

This incident adds to a series of off-field challenges for the cricketer since his retirement from international cricket, as he continues to remain in the spotlight in domestic and franchise cricket leagues.
