Government Hikes Petrol and Diesel Prices by Rs26.77 per Litre, Fuel Costs Surge Nationwide

The federal government has increased the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs26.77 per litre, marking a significant rise in fuel costs across Pakistan.

According to the latest notification, the price of petrol has been raised to Rs393.35 per litre, while high-speed diesel now stands at Rs380.19 per litre.

The increase is expected to have a broad impact on transportation costs, inflation, and overall consumer prices, as fuel remains a key driver of economic activity.

Officials have not immediately provided a detailed explanation for the latest revision; however, fuel price adjustments in Pakistan are typically linked to fluctuations in global oil markets, import costs, and exchange rate movements.

The sharp increase is likely to place additional pressure on households already facing rising living costs, particularly in essential goods and public transport fares.

Economists warn that higher diesel prices could also affect the agriculture and logistics sectors, potentially leading to further increases in food prices and supply chain expenses.

The new prices take effect immediately and will remain in force until the next fortnightly review.
