Iranian FM Araghchi Leaves Pakistan After High-Level Meetings in Islamabad

An Iranian delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi departed Islamabad on Saturday after holding important meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir.

According to official sources, the discussions focused on regional developments, bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran, and ongoing diplomatic efforts related to the US–Iran dialogue.

During his meeting at the Prime Minister’s House, Araghchi also met Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, CDF Asim Munir, and Iran’s Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam. PM Shehbaz described the engagement as a “warm and cordial exchange of views” on the regional situation.

“We also discussed matters of mutual interest, including the further strengthening of Pakistan–Iran bilateral relations,” the prime minister said.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar noted that the meeting lasted approximately two hours and emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomacy for regional peace and stability.

Earlier, Araghchi also held a separate meeting with CDF Asim Munir, where both sides discussed matters of mutual interest and the evolving regional situation, according to state media reports.

The visit comes at a sensitive diplomatic moment, with indirect US–Iran engagement continuing through Pakistan’s mediation efforts. Sources indicate that Araghchi conveyed Tehran’s formal response to previously communicated US proposals.

Before arriving in Islamabad, Araghchi stated that his regional tour aimed to coordinate with partners on bilateral issues and consult on evolving geopolitical developments.

Meanwhile, US officials have indicated that Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner are expected to travel to Pakistan for further mediated discussions involving Iranian representatives.

Diplomatic engagement remains ongoing, with Pakistan playing a key mediating role as both sides continue efforts to manage tensions and explore possible pathways toward de-escalation.
