Kamala Harris says she is ‘thinking about’ running for US president in 2028

Former US Vice President Kamala Harris has said she is “thinking about” running for president again in the 2028 election, suggesting a possible return to the White House race.

Speaking at an event hosted by the National Action Network (NAN) in New York City, Harris responded to questions about her political future by saying, “I might, I might. I’m thinking about it.”

She said her decision would be based on what is best for the American people, adding that she has been travelling across the country and engaging with voters to understand their concerns.

Harris also reflected on her experience as vice president, saying she served for four years “being a heartbeat away from the presidency” and understands the responsibilities the job requires.

She said the current political and economic situation shows that “the status quo is not working” for many Americans and that leadership must focus on public needs.

During her remarks, Harris also criticised political developments in the United States, including weakening international alliances and challenges facing democratic institutions.

She warned about ongoing debates around voting rights in the country, saying legal protections could be at risk and urging citizens to check their voter registration status and polling locations ahead of future elections.

Harris also touched on foreign policy issues, including the US involvement in Iran-related conflicts, describing aspects of current policy as controversial and raising concerns about long-term global stability.

Her comments come as several senior Democratic figures are positioning themselves for potential roles in the 2028 election cycle, with multiple governors, senators, and party leaders actively engaging in public discussions about the party’s future direction.

Since leaving office, Harris has not ruled out another presidential run, and political observers continue to view her as a significant figure within the Democratic Party.
