Life in Tehran Under Pressure as Economic Struggles and War Fears Intensify
Daily life in Iran’s capital Tehran is increasingly shaped by economic hardship, political uncertainty, and fears of renewed conflict, as residents struggle to cope with rising costs, job losses, and tightening restrictions.
On streets like Sanaei Ghaznavi, where small shops sell groceries, clothes, and everyday goods, life continues in appearance but is marked by deep financial strain. Shopkeepers describe fewer customers and declining incomes as inflation and instability continue to affect households across the country.

Many residents say the combined impact of economic challenges and prolonged restrictions, including widespread internet shutdowns, has severely affected livelihoods. Some estimates cited by local sources suggest millions of jobs have been impacted in recent years due to war-related disruptions and connectivity limits.

Ordinary citizens report that even basic essentials, including bread, have become significantly more expensive, with prices in some cases reportedly tripling. For many low-income families, daily survival has become increasingly difficult.

Beyond economic pressures, security concerns remain visible across the city. Reports describe increased presence of plain-clothed security forces and heightened military visibility in public spaces, contributing to a tense atmosphere.

Despite restrictions, Tehran’s social life continues in parts of the city. Cafes remain busy, and young people still gather in public spaces, reflecting a contrast between everyday normality and underlying national uncertainty.

Political divisions also remain evident. While some residents express frustration and demand change, others emphasize national unity and support for current leadership. Discussions about the future of Iran, including relations with the West, remain deeply polarized.

Many citizens, however, express a shared desire for stability and economic recovery. For some, the priority is simple: an end to uncertainty and a return to normal life.
