PM Shehbaz Condemns UAE Attacks, Urges Ceasefire

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned recent missile and drone attacks targeting civilian infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates, expressing full solidarity with the Emirati leadership and people.

In a statement shared on social media, the premier reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, calling the attacks a dangerous escalation in an already tense regional situation.

“Pakistan stands firmly with our Emirati brothers and sisters,” he said, emphasizing the urgent need to uphold the ceasefire and create space for diplomacy to ensure long-term peace and stability.

The UAE confirmed that Iranian missile strikes targeted key civilian and energy infrastructure, including the strategic hub of Fujairah. The attack reportedly injured three Indian nationals and raised concerns about the safety of critical oil export routes.

Fujairah holds particular importance as it provides an alternative pathway for oil exports that bypasses the sensitive Strait of Hormuz, which has already been heavily impacted by ongoing regional tensions.

The UAE’s foreign ministry condemned the strikes as an “unacceptable transgression” and signaled that it reserves the right to respond. Meanwhile, Iranian state media said the attack was a response to what it described as “US military adventurism.”

The incident has disrupted a fragile calm in the region that followed a ceasefire between Washington and Tehran on April 8 — a deal in which Pakistan played a key mediating role.

International reactions have begun to emerge. India also condemned the attacks, with its foreign ministry urging an immediate halt to hostilities and stressing the importance of maintaining free and secure navigation through vital global shipping lanes.

As tensions rise again in the Gulf, global leaders are increasingly calling for restraint, warning that continued escalation could have severe consequences for regional stability, global energy markets, and international trade.
