Rudy Giuliani in Critical but Stable Condition as He Battles Pneumonia, Spokesperson Says

Rudy Giuliani Hospitalized in Critical Condition With Pneumonia, Says Spokesperson

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is in critical but stable condition as he recovers from pneumonia, according to a statement from his spokesperson.

Spokesperson Ted Goodman said Giuliani, 81, is showing signs of improvement and is now breathing on his own after previously requiring mechanical ventilation to stabilize his condition.

Pre-Existing Respiratory Condition Complicated Illness

According to Goodman, Giuliani had been previously diagnosed with a restrictive airway disease following the September 11, 2001 attacks. The spokesperson said this underlying condition complicated his recovery after the pneumonia infection.

“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength,” Goodman said in a statement shared on social media.

Recent Public Appearance Before Hospitalization

Giuliani had recently appeared on his online program “America’s Mayor Live,” where he was seen speaking with a weakened voice and occasionally coughing. He had also missed several episodes of his regular show in recent weeks.

Messages of Support From Political Figures

Former US President Donald Trump described Giuliani as a “true warrior” and praised his tenure as mayor of New York City, while also criticizing political opponents in a social media post.

Former New York Mayor Eric Adams also expressed support, saying the situation “rises above politics” and wishing Giuliani a full recovery.

Legal and Political Background

Giuliani, once widely known for his leadership of New York City during and after the September 11 attacks, has faced significant legal and financial challenges in recent years, including election-related lawsuits and disciplinary actions.

He was disbarred in New York in 2024 over his efforts related to the 2020 US presidential election results and has been involved in multiple ongoing legal disputes.

Recent Health Issues

This is not Giuliani’s first recent health emergency. He was hospitalized in 2020 with COVID-19 and later injured in a car accident in 2023.

He remains under medical care as doctors continue to monitor his recovery.
