Sanam Saeed to Represent Pakistan at Cannes Film Festival 2026
Pakistani actor Sanam Saeed is set to make her debut appearance at the Cannes Film Festival 2026, marking a significant milestone for Pakistan’s entertainment industry on the global stage.
The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is being held from May 12 to 23, 2026, at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes, France.
Sanam Saeed’s participation will extend beyond the red carpet, as she has been selected as one of the inaugural honorees of Us Studios’ “South Asian Women Excellence in Cinema & Global Art” initiative. The programme aims to recognise the achievements and contributions of South Asian women in cinema and the creative arts worldwide.
During her appearance at Cannes, Sanam will pay tribute to legendary Pakistani film icon Shamim Ara, celebrating her pioneering role in Pakistan’s film industry.
In a video shared on her official Instagram account ahead of the festival, Sanam described Shamim Ara as a trailblazer who redefined opportunities for women in cinema.
“In a male-dominated industry, Begum Shamim Ara quietly broke the biggest boundaries, opening doors for women behind the camera,” Sanam said.
She further added that Shamim Ara’s influence on Pakistani cinema was “foundational” and continued to inspire generations of artists.
The announcement has been widely welcomed by members of Pakistan’s entertainment industry, with several celebrities extending their support and congratulations to Sanam Saeed.
Mahira Khan expressed her excitement over the achievement, saying she was proud of Sanam’s representation at the international festival.
Meanwhile, Maya Ali praised Sanam’s decision to honour Shamim Ara, while Kinza Hashmi also congratulated her on the milestone.
Several other Pakistani celebrities, including Zara Noor Abbas, Ghana Ali, Nadia Hussain and Hareem Farooq, also shared congratulatory messages ahead of her Cannes debut.
