Trump and Netanyahu Diverge on Iran War’s Future in Tense Phone Call

US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly held a tense phone conversation regarding the future of the ongoing Iran war, according to a US official cited by CNN.

The two leaders spoke after Trump paused planned US military strikes on Iran that were expected to take place earlier this week under a reported operation called “Operation Sledgehammer.” Trump later said the attacks were halted following requests from Gulf allies including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE to allow diplomatic efforts more time.

Reports suggest Gulf countries and Pakistani mediators are currently working on a possible framework aimed at reviving negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

During the call, Netanyahu reportedly pushed for the continuation of military action against Iran, arguing that delaying attacks would benefit Tehran. However, Trump appeared more interested in pursuing diplomacy and exploring the possibility of a deal.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said: “We’re in the final stages of Iran. We’ll see what happens.” He added that the US could either reach a deal or “do some things that are a little bit nasty.”

Israeli officials are said to be frustrated over the delay in military action, believing Iran is using diplomacy to buy time. Despite these concerns, Trump has continued to publicly support negotiations.

Meanwhile, Iran is reportedly reviewing a US proposal aimed at ending the conflict and reducing tensions in the region.

The latest developments highlight growing differences between Washington and Tel Aviv over how to handle the Iran conflict, even as both countries remain close allies.
