Trump Cancels Planned US Envoys’ Visit to Pakistan for Iran Talks
US President Donald Trump has reportedly cancelled a planned trip by senior US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan, where they were expected to hold talks with Iranian representatives, according to Fox News.
Speaking to Fox News White House correspondent Aishah Hasnie, Trump said he instructed his team not to proceed with the long-haul diplomatic mission.
“I’ve told my people a little while ago they were getting ready to leave, and I said, ‘Nope, you’re not making an 18-hour flight to go there,’” Trump said.
“We have all the cards. They can call us anytime they want, but you’re not going to be making any more 18-hour flights to sit around talking about nothing,” he added.
The envoys were expected to participate in indirect discussions related to Iran, with Pakistan previously playing a mediating role in facilitating diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran.
The cancellation marks a shift in the US approach to ongoing diplomatic efforts, as tensions and negotiations in the region continue to evolve.
